With Nike dominating so many sectors of the sporting industry, it comes as no surprise that the giant would eventually introduce a golf line. Consisting of balls, clubs, and apparel, Nike golf products offer equipment and accessories to compliment even the most experienced of professionals. As part of its quest to remain a leader, Nike has managed to secure a long list of celebrity and sport professionals to act as spokespersons. In 1996, Nike enlisted phenomenon Tiger Woods to help bring the golfing line to new heights.
Nike offers a long list of golf clubs, including drivers, woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters. The latest release in the Nike Golf line is the Nike SQ Dymo STR8-FIT, featuring a design superior to that of the Nike SUMO. The new Dymo contains an adjustable head with eight settings, for a truly customized golfing experience. The various settings allow golfers to set a specific degree, from 2 degrees closed through to 2 degrees open. The Nike SQ Dymo also provides a choice of lie angles to compliment the height of a particular golfer. According to a few of the experts, the innovative design and superior capabilities of the Dymo line will likely coerce the Sumo series into retirement.
In late 2008, Nike introduced its line of Victory Red irons, available in Forged TW Blades, Forged Split Cavity, and Full Cavity Victory Red models. The Nike Victory Red irons were tested by several pro golfers during last summer’s PGA Tour, with rave results. Paul Casey, who placed seventh in the event, attributed an increase of about two to three yards to the Victory Red Forged TW Blades.
The Nike Victory Red line features a conventional shape and unsurpassed craftsmanship. Tiger Woods also played an integral role in the clubs’ design, working with Nike professionals to produce a first-rate line. In particular, Woods directly influenced the Victory Red Forged TW Blade, providing center of gravity specs that contribute to more precise and controlled movements. Woods was pleased with the end result, praising the Victory Red’s ability to help him shape the ball while retaining maximum efficiency.

In the early 1970s, a new line of golf clubs emerged that would prove to become a top name in the sport. Founded by Thomas Crow, Cobra Golf released its first utility wood just two short years later, using a patent-protected sole-plate design. Less than twenty years later, the King Cobra oversize irons clobbered the competition as the best-selling irons on the market.
Over the years, Cobra Golf has remained at the forefront of new developments, bringing a better overall experience to avid golfers. With so many different types of irons on the market, Cobra Golf appears to adhere to the motto that there is always room for improvement. With the February 2009 release of its King Cobra S9-1 drivers, the company remains a design leader.
Named after the “Hotter 9 Points” face and Speed Tuning, the S9-1 products claim to provide a faster ball speed and a more dependable drive. To create a driver capable of producing these results, Cobra Golf combined a conventional design with internal capabilities to bring the line to new heights. The S9-1 collection starts with group of base drivers, consisting of six Speed Tuned models, and progresses to a series of Pro clubs.
Available within the base series are the F, M, M offset, women’s, women’s offset and senior models. While “F” and “M” provide information about the driver’s shape and launch ability, they also have some bearing on Cobra’s Speed Tuning system, with F best-suited to speeds of 125-155 mph and M considered more appropriate for speeds of 110-140 mph.
More experienced golfers will appreciate the smooth design of the King Cobra S9-1 Pro series, available in two models. The S9-1 Pro S supplies an advanced launch and low-to-mid spin, encouraging a higher shot. For a mid-to-high launch with low spin, the S9-1 Pro D is sure to produce fantastic results. Both models feature a square alignment and seemingly weightless composite crown, available in 8.5, 9.5, and 10.5 degree lofts. The King Cobra S9-1 Pro series also comes standard with a Cobra/Matrix OZIK Xcon 6 shaft.
